SGC's Tribal Capacity Building Pilot Program to Assist Up to Six California Tribes in Planning and Implementing Climate Initiatives
Sacramento, CA — November 7, 2023 — The California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) announced today that $1 million in funding is now available through a new pilot program for tribal grantees. The Tribal Capacity Building Pilot Program will offer technical assistance and tailored support to help California tribes secure grants for projects that bolster resilience and address the root causes of climate change.
"SGC's latest initiative will create opportunities for California Native American tribes to strategize and implement locally relevant climate projects in alignment with their communities' visions,” said Lynn von Koch-Liebert, Executive Director of the California Strategic Growth Council. “This dedicated program for tribal grantees is part of the State’s work to ensure tribal communities can successfully access both State and Federal investments and will enhance SGC’s overall capacity-building approach by fostering partnerships with tribes during the forthcoming two-year pilot period."
The initial round of the Tribal Capacity Building Pilot Program, through grants ranging from $150,000 to $250,000, will support activities alleviating climate impacts and climate change. Visit the Tribal Capacity Building Pilot Program webpage for application details, grant guidelines, and workshop registration. The final due date for applications is February 5, 2024. SGC staff will host an application workshop on November 28, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. PST, and will hold virtual office hours from November 16, 2023, through January 25, 2024 every other Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. PST.
The Tribal Capacity Building Pilot Program is part of the Community Assistance for Climate Equity suite of programs, which oversee technical assistance and capacity-building investments to ensure that communities possess the necessary resources and tools to access State and Federal funding for climate-related projects.
