Friends and Colleagues,
I am writing to share some news. After years of working with some of the most dedicated public servants, advocates and leaders in our state, I’ll be stepping down as Executive Director of the Strategic Growth Council on July 12.
It has truly been an honor helping to strengthen collaboration between our state, regional and local government partners, community-based organizations and other stakeholders to advance more sustainable, equitable communities. Although more work remains, I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish – including investing over $1.3 billion in affordable housing, public transit, agricultural land protection and other community investments. Thanks to the conviction and strength of SGC’s dedicated staff and Council members, our programs have made a place-based, community-driven approach central to achieving our climate change goals.
The Council has nominated Dr. Louise Bedsworth as the new Executive Director, who currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research. As the SGC continues to expand our efforts to transform communities throughout California, I have no doubt Louise will lead the organization to even greater levels of impact and achievement.
My time with Governor Brown’s administration has been formative on many fronts. I am deeply appreciative of those I’ve been so fortunate to learn from – colleagues, mentors, and leaders who have given me a hunger for action and progressive change, and constantly remind me of the need to be passionately committed to principles that give personal meaning to the shared ethics that bind us all.
I will be heading to law school this fall at UC Berkeley, looking to integrate my background in architecture with law to strengthen my capacity to serve the public. Of course I look forward to keeping in touch, and continuing to be a part of the effort to advance more inclusive, equitable growth.
