Governing For Racial Equity: California’s Capitol Cohort Racial equity capacity-building for State employees

Racial inequities are evident across every indicator of well-being. From life expectancy, to health, education, income, and neighborhood design – race matters. In order to advance racial equity in California, the Health in All Policies Task Force and Government Alliance on Race and Equity have created the Capitol Cohort – a racial equity capacity-building program for California State employees. The Capitol Cohort is a pilot effort that is convened and facilitated by Health in All Policies task force. The training and curriculum are provided by the Government Alliance on Race and Equity. Twelve teams of up to 15 state employees represent their affiliated state departments, agencies, and offices and have committed to participate in the 50-hour curriculum and contribute to the development of a customized Racial Equity Action Plan tailored to their organization’s needs. This pilot program is supported by Race Forward, in partnership with the California Health in All Policies Task Force, the Public Health Institute, and the California Endowment.
