The California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) team is excited to welcome three new staff to bring to life our newly-established Health and Equity Program (HEP) team: Nanette Star, Program Manager; Bo Chung, Program Analyst; and Michael Jimenez, Program Associate. (Read their bios on the staff page of SGC’s website.) These HEP positions are the first State-funded SGC positions to support the California Health in All Policies Taskforce (HiAP), in partnership with the Public Health Institute and the California Department of Public Health. The HiAP Task Force works with more than 20 State agencies to incorporate health, equity, and environmental sustainability into decision-making across sectors to improve the social and material conditions that drive health. Established through a Governor’s Executive Order in 2010, the HiAP Taskforce has been staffed through a public-private partnership. These new SGC staff positions represent a commitment from Governor Gavin Newsom’s Administration and the legislature to advance cross-sector collaborative action on the social determinants of health and equity. The Health and Equity Program team at SGC will be responsible for supporting the HiAP Taskforce, infusing health and equity into all of SGC’s policy and program areas, and leading the implementation of SGC’s Racial Equity Action Plan. SGC thanks the Public Health Institute staff – Julia Caplan, Lianne Dillon, Holly Nickel, and Colin Gutierrez, who have been housed at SGC for the past several years, for their leadership of the Health in All Policies Task Force, and other health and equity initiatives. We look forward to our continued collaboration.
