Announcement From What to How: Advancing Housing, Climate, and Equity Goals through State-Local Coordination

Published:

We invite San Diego local and tribal government representatives to join us for a two-hour workshop to discuss how State-local coordination can help your community overcome barriers to advancing housing, climate, and equity goals. The workshop offers an opportunity to learn about new State tools and the experiences of planners and other practitioners seeking to employ State resources to address local housing, climate, and equity objectives.

Capacity for this event is limited.

State & Local Energy and Climate Coordination (SLECC), a collaboration between the California Strategic Growth Council, CivicWell’s California Climate and Energy Collaborative (CCEC), and State agencies, is presenting this pilot regional workshop in conjunction with the October 26 Strategic Growth Council meeting. SLECC serves as a statewide communication and ideation hub to help State and local leaders improve coordinated efforts to more rapidly unlock California regions’ and communities’ unique potential to address energy and climate goals. The workshop discussions will inform 2024 updates to SGC’s Housing, Climate, and Equity work plan and contribute to SLECC’s ongoing efforts to co-create practical operational solutions for critical statewide needs or gaps that hinder more significant progress on energy and climate action within communities.

Background

In December 2022, the California Strategic Growth Council passed a Resolution creating a framework for elevating and coordinating the growing number of policies and programs designed to advance progress toward the State’s housing, climate, and equity goals. The Resolution aims to leverage existing State efforts at the housing-climate nexus through improved interagency alignment and coordination with local and regional partners. Central to this work is learning how local and regional implementers perceive and experience State policies and programs. This understanding can inform State actions to improve access to resources and reduce burdens on local and regional agencies.
