The California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) will join community, city, state and federal partners Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) light rail station on North 12th Street between Richards Boulevard and Sunbeam Avenue. The new Dos Rios station is being built in the River District of Sacramento, which is currently cut off from the surrounding area by railroad tracks, levees and rivers and has limited roads, transit, or even sidewalks to reach nearby neighborhoods.

Dos Rios will connect the River District and redeveloped Mirasol Village public housing community (also in the area) to affordable transit options and jobs, retail, and cultural amenities - creating a more sustainable pathway to and from downtown Sacramento for residents.

The Dos Rios Station received funding from two SGC grant programs, the Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Program (Round 2/$17.6 million) and the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) Program (Round 4/$940,000), totaling more than $18.5 million in SGC investments.

TCC funds development and infrastructure projects that achieve major environmental, health, and economic benefits in California’s most disadvantaged communities. It is one of many California Climate Investments (CCI), which is a statewide program that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing GHG emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment – particularly in disadvantaged communities. AHSC is administered by SGC and implemented by the California Department of Housing and Community Development. AHSC is also part of CCI.

In total, the future Dos Rios Station has secured $42.8 million in funding from state and federal sources. This includes $31.2 million in state funding from programs such as TCC, AHSC, Senate Bill 125 ($10 million), and the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program ($2.5 million). Additionally, $11.6 million in federal funding has been secured, including $9.6 million from the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant, $1 million from the FY24 THUD Appropriations Bill through Congressional Directed Spending, and $1,200,313 from other local and federal sources.

Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA) is leading the effort to redevelop the Mirasol Village public housing community and its surrounding River District neighborhood.
